Frequently Asked Questions
Pet Lore is still growing, and this page is designed to help you find the right part of the project quickly. Below you’ll find a short overview of Pet Lore, followed by links to more specific pages about the app, The Good Companion journal, submissions, the Pet Lore Guild, and partnerships.
The Good Companion Journal

What is The Good Companion?
Pet Lore’s journal for essays, art, research, field notes, interviews, photo stories, and guided storytelling about the lives we share with animals.

What kinds of work do you publish?
Personal essays, research-informed articles, art/photo stories, field notes, multimedia work, and memorial tributes.

Do I have to be a professional writer or artist?
No. New writers and artists are welcome.

Are submissions paid?
At launch, submissions are unpaid, with no submission fee. Honoraria may be introduced as sponsorships, grants, or revenue allow.

Can I submit previously published work?
Yes, if you have the rights and clearly disclose where it appeared.

Do you accept AI-generated writing or images?
This needs its own short policy answer. I’d say you may use AI for light drafting/support if disclosed, but the work must be human-led, truthful, and rights-cleared. For cover art, I would keep your stricter position: no AI-generated cover art.
